Bishop Bavin/Mondeor Regatta - 17th October

Team Bishop Bavin competed in a total of 21 events at Saturday's regatta, 12 of which were "A" events.

With us fielding more than one entry in many of these events, we secured 18 medal positions, evenly split between 1st, 2nd & 3rd.

Similarly in the "B" events, we secured four 1sts and four 2nds and demonstrating how quickly our novice rowers are improving and should be in a position to compete for spots in the finals at Gauteng Champs.

Congratulations to all crews for such a great performance.

Lost Property

With the advent of the regatta season comes the ever increasing pile of abandonded clothing, books, water bottles and miscelaneous rowing gear that accumulates during the season. We already have several items of clothing and a couple of camp chairs.
We all know how expensive it is to replace kit, so we've set up a lost property bin at the boat shed.
Please feel to rummage around in it when you are next at VLC. You might be pleasantly surprised !!
Please do remember to mark as much of your stuff as possible. It just makes it so much easier to identify.

18 from 18 at St. Dunstans - 26th September

Okay so it wasn't quite a clean sweep but with many of Team Bishop Bavin sporting more medals than Colonel Gaddafi you could have fooled us !!

Congratulations to our junior crews who took part in Saturday's regatta at Roodeplaat. In hot conditions they demonstrated that they will be a force to be reckoned with come the provincial championships at the end of October.

Team Bishop Bavin entered 18 events and came away with 18 medals.

Medal positions were won in all 8 of the "A" events entered which is an outstanding achievement. The medal tally included 6 Golds, 3 Silvers and 2 Bronze.

Those of you who attended the first regatta will have seen how our novice crews performed and it was therefore pleasing to see them show further improvement by picking up medal positions in 6 of the 10 events entered.
The tally included 3 firsts, 1 second and 2 thirds.

More pleasing is the fact that the times recorded for these crews shows that they are bridging the gap with crews in "A" events. Congratulations to all our novices and the coaching team.

Warning to Parents - Take Note

Parents are asked to be aware of the following syptoms developing during the forthcoming season:

1) Waking up in the very early hours of the morning - especially on weekends

2) Water, Energade and Jelly Babies make up an increasing part of your grocery bill

3) Always having warm jackets in the car - even in Summer

4) Your car smells permanently of suntan lotion because it lives in the cubbyhole - even in Winter

5) You are developing a stiff neck from falling asleep in a camping chair too often

6) Spending excessive amounts of money with nothing tangible to show for it

7) Your shopping list often includes a No. 10 spanner

Please do not be concerned if you are experiencing any of the above symptoms - you are simply becoming a rowing parent - Welcome to the club !!

St Benedicts Regatta - 19th September

Team Bishop Bavin competed in the first regatta of the season on Sat 19th Sept and despite an unusually cold and windy start at Roodeplaat, the rowers put in a great performance. With many of them rowing in either their first ever regatta or rowing 2000m for the first time they can be rightfully proud of their achievements and we look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength.
For the record we participated in a total of 25 events, 15 of which were "A" events.
Our crews went on to win medal positions in 10 of the 15 events which is a great start to the season. The total medal tally was 7 Golds and 4 Silvers.
In the B & C races our crews did us proud and its clear that they will soon be challenging for slots in the A events.
Thanks to all the parents who made the trip out to Roodeplaat and showed their support.
